THE PEOPLE
PROBLEM
Is bigger better? The effects of
population growth on the people of Utah and the state’s environment
will be discussed at a conference in Salt Lake City, April 29.
Keynote speaker Judith Jacobsen, a consultant to the President’s
Council on Sustainable Development, will talk about the
international conference on population held in Cairo last year and
discuss the links between population, consumption, the status of
women and land use. The day-long conference includes workshops on
land use in the West and the impact of population on water
resources and air quality. For more information about “Population
Growth, Ethics and the Environment,” call the Utah Population
Coalition at 801/521-2623.
