In the U.S.A.

523 million acres are classified as timberlands…

… which is 23 percent of the nation’s total land area…

58 percent of which is in private ownership…

29 percent of which is in public agency ownership…

and 13 percent in timber industry ownership.

In the West

228.6 million acres are classified as private timberlands…

… which is about 30 percent of the total land area.

141.3 million acres are in national forests…

…about 25 percent of the area.

In Washington and Oregon

50 percent of the states’ total acreage is timberland…

… of which 51.6 million acres are private…

… and 15.7 million acres are in national forests…

… or about 15 percent of the total land area.
