On a late-summer day last September, wildfires swept across Oregon. Lanette and Steve Martin lived more than 20 miles away from Alma Alvarez and her three kids, but both families lost their homes that day.
This April, after months of struggling to find stable housing, both families found refuge at a motel in Medford. But neither family — nor the countless others who remain displaced in southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley — has any idea where they’ll go from here.
