Ranch Diaries series follows what it's like to get into cattle ranching today
High Country News is launching a new series of essays titled "Ranch Diaries" highlighting the experiences of Laura Jean Schneider and Sam Ryerson, members of a younger generation of cattle ranchers. They are ranching on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in southcentral New Mexico.
Making a living in an industry that faces an ever-evolving host of obstacles like drought, climate changes, political forces, and a volatile cattle market, Schneider will give a peek into what it’s like to take on those challenges during the first year of Triangle P Cattle Company.
Installments of the series will appear at hcn.org on the second fourth Tuesdays of each month. Ranch Diaries will be published through fall 2015, until further notice.
