Lagoon Nebula

The Lagoon Nebula, located within the constellation Sagittarius is approximately 4,000 light years away. It was part of the listing of astronomical objects identified in the 1700s by French astronomer Charles Messier. It was designated as Messier 8 (M8) at that time. This picture was accomplished by taking and combining 18 2 minute exposures using a 10" reflector telescope on a tracking mount.
