Big Warrior Rules The Night

For centuries, this carved figure has held his shield at the ready, with only stars and a sprinkling of evening primrose flowers for companionship. The big warrior panel is one of numerous rock art (petroglyph) sites located in Dinétah, the traditional homeland of the Navajo, dating back to the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. A clear summer sky, a short burst of light and a long exposure was all that was needed to make this picture. San Juan County, New Mexico.
