Contemplative Gaze

Contemplative Gaze

She was remarkably calm and seemingly comfortable, and often, she would slowly step near me and we would quietly stare into each other’s eyes. The following year she came back, evidenced by her distinctive torn right ear, and our contemplative relationship continued. The third year she didn’t return, although I suspect her fawns took her place in my serene backyard on the cool banks of the Upper Arkansas River. Solace for me often involves a feeling, a succor and connection with nature, that few humans often provide - she always did.
