Brandt's cormorants and common murre

Brandt's cormorants and common murre

Up and down the Oregon coast each summer, seabirds such as Brandt's Cormorants and common murre gather in colonies to establish their nests on remote cliffs and offshore rocks. In this image, taken from a viewpoint just a ten-minute walk from my home, one Brandt's cormorant bows to its partner in a "display" that reinforces their pair-bond. (Some common murre appear to be voyeuristically observing from the sidelines.)
