Death Valley and the suprising grebe

Death Valley and the suprising grebe

A friend and I were in the backcountry of Death Valley National Park when a crazy noise came tumbling out of the desert. Whipping around to see what was attracted to our campsite, I expected to see a mountain lion or drunk stumbling out of the darkness. It was an injured grebe lost in the scrub. The moment was so intimate. We placed some water out for it to drink, which it did and then it went on its way. I hope it found the sky again.
