Heather Wylie was a biologist working for the Army Corps of Engineers when she joined a group of people kayaking down the Los Angeles River – a “giant concrete trough” that runs more than 50 miles through the heavily urban area. The Army Corps had classed the river as “non-navigable” – the group proved it was indeed navigable, ultimately protecting not only the river, but its tributaries and the entire watershed. After filing a whistle-blower complaint, Wylie left the Corps. She talks about her experience with Marty Durlin.
