Aren't you a little ashamed to be pandering to one of the largest corporations on the planet, one accused of labor abuses?

Hey, thanks for the feedback, folks.

Andrew - what can we say? We'll work on it. ;-)

Joe - thanks for the gut-check. The short story is that: 1) In order to stay current with our readers, we must move into the mobile market; 2) We've had many requests from our readers for this app; 3) One of our subscribers subsidized a large percentage of the development costs, and without his generosity, we wouldn't have a mobile app on any platform.

Sure, some of us here have reservations about working with Apple (the app submission process alone leaves us feeling like we're dealing with the devil at times). But if we're talking about corporate ethics, it's not just Apple that should concern us. In order to keep up with the rest of the world, we must continue to work with Google, AT&T, Adobe, Microsoft, Dell, and many other large corporations. As I'm sure you're aware, not all of them are exactly squeaky clean.

For what it's worth, we do have internal debates about what is and what is not appropriate for HCN. It's a great part of the fabric of HCN's culture, and contributes to being able to get up and feel good about going to work in the morning.

Has anyone at HCN figured out that the iPad app video cannot be viewed on an iPad? It requires Flash, which is not supported on the iPad.

Hi Thomas - yes, we're aware of the iPad/Flash issue. Most of our marketing messages that reference the iPad app point to http://www.hcn.org/digital-info . On that page is a button - hopefully obvious enough - for iPad users to view the video. That button will link iPad users (or anyone) to YouTube, where the video is also available, and also viewable through the iPad.

But your comment reminds us that there isn't such a link on THIS page, so we'll include it here as well. Thanks!

Thanks for the sense of humor, my boys are asking to see it again, and we don't even have an iPad.

I don't need an APP! I have a pdf viewer on my android devices - just give me a good old fashioned pdf version! Is it here somewhere and I have missed it?

Hey Penny - though we don't have a PDF version available, you should be able to view our Digital Edition on your Android device (since it probably supports Flash). The Digital Edition is a graphical version of the magazine, much like a PDF.

You can view our available digital editions here: http://www.hcn.org/digital-edition-listing-view . As long as you have a subscription activated on the website, you should see links to view any of the available editions. Note you may have to enter your login credentials to see the links.

@Mike - thanks for the response but the Flash version on the site doesn't work well at all on my Android devices. The buttons for zooming (like to make it readable) and for downloading as a pdf are hidden by a link button to hcn.org sigh ..... will just have to continue to open them on my computer and download the pdf from there. You used to be able to download pdfs simply on the site. A case of "modernizing" the site and loosing a certain simplicity! Also, Flash isn't going to be supported on Android after v. 4.01 so there are going to be androids picketing your doorstep soon. OMG!!!!

Penny - OMG is right. It's tough to keep up, especially with our budget! For what it's worth we're working on a plan to "modernize" our website so we can support mobile devices better all around. This should preclude many of the complexities we're now juggling with varying platforms and device-specific capabilities. Stay tuned!

Brilliant! The video, the app, the works! I'll pony up some extra dough for that. Heading to your donation page as we speak...

If you are seeing this box appear multiple times, then something is not allowing the cookie to be stored properly. Browsers can be set to not allow cookies, and some people choose to disallow cookies for security reasons. If your browser is setup this way, please consider adding "www.hcn.org" as an exception to your no-cookies rule. For information about how to do this, just search the Web for "browser cookie exceptions."

If you're sure this isn't the problem, then it could be related to how your browser has stored information from our site in previous visits. Browsers often "cache" images, text and other website content in order to make them appear faster if you ever go back. Sometimes the browser's cache can be corrupted or become outdated. The simplest fix for this is to try reloading the page. If that doesn't fix the problem, it may be necessary to clear your temporary items from your browser. Again, a web search will provide you with lots of options and instructions.

Either way, we're sorry to hear that this box is getting in the way of your enjoyment of the HCN website. If you continue to have trouble, please contact our Subscriber Services team.
