-My husband worked on the A-LP project all his life
and was in Washington in 1968 when President Lyndon Johnson signed
the A-LP project. He chaired the conservancy district for over 30
years, and now I hold the
position.
"The La Plata River
has been dry this year. If we could just save that water in the
winter when it's going down, we could farm the next year. Now, it's
going to California for nothing. All the California people are
moving up here, and with the project we could have enough water for
them to drink and flush their toilets just the same as they do out
there.
"To me, water storage
is the same as having a big bank account. You save water, you spend
the interest, and you have the money left in the bank."
