HCN.ORG: NEW AND IMPROVED!
For the past year, the High Country News IT sweatshop has been especially sweaty, as Ryan Foster, director of digital media, and a team of consultants from Seattle-based ONE/Northwest and Web Collective have toiled day and night to rebuild our Web site from the ground up. Today, you can see the fruits of that labor: A sleeker, faster site, with more content that's easier to navigate and interact with. HCN.org is full of stuff that can't be found in the magazine, including videos, slideshows and Web-exclusive features such as coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo. Editor Jonathan Thompson and three HCN reporters will deliver live, West-centric color, commentary and analysis from the convention Aug. 25-28. We hope you'll join us online.
Our July 21 "Power of the Picture" photo essay included images of natural gas wells, not oil wells, as the caption read.
Due to an editing error in our July 21 cover story on the Republican Party, the graphic on pages 14-16 miscast the turnover in some U.S. Senate and House seats. Rep. Sam Coppersmith, Sen. Dennis DeConcini, Rep. Pat Williams, Rep. Jim Kolbe, Rep. Scott McInnis, Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell and Rep. Bob Beauprez all vacated their seats (they did not lose in attempts to be re-elected). Also, Slade Gorton's loss to Maria Cantwell was in a Senate race, not a House race. In the story itself, Jim Risch's age was misreported as 70; he is 64.
