High Country Views, episode 9

HCN editors dissect the news

High Country News senior editor, Ray Ring, and multimedia fellow, Cally Carswell, break down two surprising deals inked between hard-line environmental groups and energy developers in July. In Utah, an agreement was finalized between the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and Bill Barrett Corp. that allows the oil and gas company to drill for natural gas near Nine Mile Canyon. And Western Watersheds and the Oregon Natural Desert Association agreed not to sue over the environmental impacts of the Ruby Pipeline in exchange for $22 million, which will be used, in part, to retire grazing leases.
